Traffic never looked so good. A highway that runs through Oso, Washington, reopened to two-way traffic Monday night, six months after the community was devastated by a deadly mudslide. State Highway 530 was reopened to 50 MPH traffic between Oso and the town of Darrington to the west at about 8:40 p.m. PT, the Washington Department of Transportation said. The Associated Press reported crews raised the road by as much as 20 feet in places and installed six new culverts to direct water away.
Forty-three people died when a hillside collapsed in Oso on March 22, burying homes and blocking Highway 530. On Sunday, first responders and family members gathered for the six-month anniversary of the slide to remember victims, the AP said.
