The man failed sobriety tests, the police said.

Police in Rhode Island say they caught a man driving a snowplow-equipped truck under the influence and going the wrong way.

It happened on Route 403 in North Kingstown on Tuesday night, near the end of the blizzard, police said. The truck was not plowing snow at the time and was not working for the state, they said. The man, identified as John Cunha, 55, failed a series of sobriety tests, police said.

Cunha was released from jail on $1,000 bond and was ordered to appear in court next week. He was charged with driving under the influence and could be fined and have his license suspended. A phone number for Cunha was disconnected, and there was no immediate information on a lawyer.
