Rams outside linebacker Myles Garrett did not practice Tuesday. He has not practiced much this summer, missing most of training camp with knee swelling.
He did return to practice Sunday and also practiced Monday, and coach Sean McVay said Garrett will play in the season opener against the Rams on Thursday.
It seems likely that Garrett is on a snap count, but no one is saying.
Garrett didn’t answer how he felt physically, stating simply that he’s ready for the season opener despite the lack of training camp reps.
“I think I’ll be able to play off of some great teammates,” Garrett said, via Benjamin Royer of ocregister.com. “We have a strong defense all around, and they’ll make it easy, even if I am a touch off of what I usually am. I don’t suspect that I will be, but I have plenty of support, that’s all I’m saying.”
Garrett set the NFL record with 23 sacks last season, winning his second Defensive Player of the Year award. But late last season, that’s all he and the Browns had to play for.
It was that way for most of his career in Cleveland, with the Browns going 58-90 with two playoff appearances in Garrett’s nine seasons there. The Rams’ aspirations are much higher.
“Super Bowl,” Garrett said. “Win DPOY again, obviously. I think those are the two main things on my mind, and going out and just being the best player I can be. I think there is a whole bunch of opportunities out there for, for us as the D-line to be something truly special, and I just want us to be able to realize that and, and never go into the locker room after a game feeling like we could’ve achieved more or done more.”
