On the Wednesday night before the first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game, another piece of NFL-related entertainment will debut.
Via Rebecca Rubin of Variety, the Madden movie will debut November 18 on Prime Video.
It’s expected to have a limited theatrical release for awards-qualification purposes in November. It won’t be widely distributed.
John Madden, the legendary Raiders coach, broadcaster, and video-game mogul, is played by Nicolas Cage. Christian Bale, who played Batman in multiple Christopher Nolan films, plays Al Davis, the maverick owner whom the NFL often regarded as the Joker. The rest of the cast includes Kathryn Hahn. John Mulaney, Sienna Miller, and Shane Gillis.
As Rubin notes, it’s unclear why the film won’t have a national theatrical run.
