The blaze started at the 20th floor on New Year's Eve and quickly spread up the side of the building.

The Address Downtown Dubai hotel is engulfed by fire as fireworks explode over the Burj Khalifa during New Year's celebrations. 

Dubai is heavily reliant on tourism and officials were keen to downplay the blaze and draw attention to the fireworks display, which had been expected to draw a crowd of around one million.
