A late winter storm created awful driving conditions in Kentucky and other parts of the eastern United States and contributed to a jetliner's scary skid at New York's LaGuardia Airport on Thursday. Meanwhile, a weather satellite sent down the big-picture perspective on the storm — and it was an awesome sight.

This image was captured by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's GOES East satellite at 12:45 p.m. ET Thursday. It shows the storm front spanning territory from Mexico all the way up to Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada.

About 100 million people in 28 states were under winter advisories on Thursday, but once this storm heads out to the Atlantic, most Americans are expected to get a break from this winter's fierce weather. "This looks like the last one for a while," said Kevin Roth, senior meteorologist at The Weather Channel.
