The northern lights glow a gorgeous green over Finland's Lake Oulujärvi, but for photographer Henri Luoma, that's not enough. His long-exposure photo includes the arcing trails of the stars that whirled around the north celestial pole through the night.
During a winter outing, Luoma set the exposure time for four hours to capture the star trails, and then combined that photo with a brilliant shot of the aurora to complete the scene. He shared the results via Twitter on Thursday.
"I've also spent 100 hours outside from last August to January 2014 in freezing temperatures to make this time-lapse about Finnish nature," Luoma wrote in a follow-up message.
