By Singer Miley Cyrus recently shared the one reservation she has about getting married to fiancé Maxx Morando — and it is oh, so relatable.
Cyrus, 33, spoke about the relationship in a Sept. 17 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. The singer, who got engaged to Morando last year, was brutally honest about her fears.
“We’ve been together six years, and I’ve never gotten the ick. But I was like, all of a sudden, got in my head,” Cyrus told Lowe. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m about to get married. What if I get the ick?’”
The ick, of course, refers to that sudden onset of feeling of disgust when a love interest does something one finds awkward, embarrassing or gross.
Morando pretty successfully squashed the fear, Cyrus said.
“I asked him, ‘What happens if you get the ick once you’re married?’ He’s like, ‘You deal with it, and like you move on, and you don’t be a baby. The ick is for when you’re in fifth grade,’” she said.
Cyrus, who got engaged to Morando in Kyoto, Japan, has previously been married once to actor Liam Hemsworth. The pair separated in 2019 after eight months of marriage. The “Flowers” singer then met Morando on a blind date years later in 2021.
In the interview with Lowe, Cyrus said that her experience with the ick was put to the test shortly after she talked the subject with Morando.
“Then suddenly I got the ick,” Cyrus shared. “He did something that icked me for a minute, and I was like, ‘Don’t ever do that again. It gave me the ick.’”
It led her to wonder if she’s ever given her partner the ick as well, Cyrus told Lowe.
“He said, ‘When you’re a brat,’” Cyrus said of Morando’s ick. “Which is so true. Dude, I’m so icky when I’m a brat.”
Cyrus and Morando have been rather private about their relationship, sparingly attending events together. However both have spoken highly of one another. In a July interview with Wonderland Magazine, Morando said that he loves “going with her to certain things to support whatever she’s doing.”
Cyrus told Lowe in their chat that Morando has allowed her to “soften.”
“I realized so much of my life was performative that I didn’t even realize that he’s given me the permission to really like soften into the reality,” she said.
The pair have also collaborated professionally, with Morando co-writing multiple songs with Cyrus. Recently, the couple appeared together in the steamy music video for her aptly-titled song “Let’s Get Married,” shot at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. The song is part of her new album “Bass Persuades,” which debuted on Sept. 18.
