Inspired by two "strong women" — her mother and her grandmother — Grammy winner Alicia Keys will join Sting, No Doubt and a host of other superstars Saturday in the Global Citizen Festival — a free Central Park concert to foster action to help end poverty by 2030.
"Mother and my grandmother are my biggest inspirations," Keys told NBC News, adding: "I think that's where so many of my values come from. ... We can't just like watch the news every day and not do anything."
Other stars appearing Saturday include host Hugh Jackman, Jay-Z, Carrie Underwood, Jessica Alba, Fun, The Roots, Tiesto and Olivia Wilde, as well as world leaders and more than 60,000 attendees, most of whom earned their admission through their anti-poverty activism. Concert coverage begins Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on MSNBC and msnbc.com. The event will stream live on NBCNews.com and Today.com starting at 4 p.m. ET. A prime-time concert special will air at 9 p.m. on NBC, hosted by Tamron Hall.
