Chris Brown will spend 90 days in a Los Angeles County residential anger-management treatment program, an L.A. Superior Court judge ordered Wednesday. The order follows the recommendations of probation officers after Brown flew into a rage at a treatment facility earlier this month and shattered his mother's car window with a rock.
Judge James Brandlin also ordered that Brown undergo random drug testing, that he be allowed out to complete at least 25 hours of community service a week, and that he take medication as prescribed by his doctor. The 25-year-old Grammy-winner did not object to the conditions at Wednesday's hearing.
In a report to the judge obtained by NBC News, probation officers stated "there was much concern" with Brown's Oct. 26 arrest in Washington, and his "violent outburst that resulted in his discharge from a treatment facility." Brown voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment program in the Los Angeles area on Oct. 29 with the intention of spending 90 days in "dual diagnosis treatment" for mental health issues and drug addiction.
On Nov. 1, Brown indicated to his probation officer that he had suffered a setback "mentally and emotionally when he was not credited for all of the community service hours he initially completed." He told the officer he had issues with his attention-deficit disorder and had undergone a period of depression, the report states, while also noting that being in the program had "enabled him to gain stability."
But less than two weeks later, Brown said he wanted to leave the treatment facility because he was upset about "limited phone use." He was discharged on Nov. 10 when he became angry with his mother during a counseling session.
"What led up to this incident was a family session in which his mother said that she wanted him to remain in treatment and continue the clinical work he had been engaging in for almost two weeks," the probation report states."Mr. Brown proceeded to walk outside and pick up a rock and threw it through his mother's car window and it shattered. We discharged him from residential treatment and told him he could leave immediately as he had signed a non-violent contract when he enrolled."
The singer will not be allowed to leave the state except to attend a Monday court hearing in Washington regarding misdemeanor assault charges related to an incident near his hotel.
The Los Angeles judge ordered him to check in to rehab Wednesday. Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Mary Murray has not decided whether Brown's Washington arrest will lead to revocation of his Los Angeles probation revocation. She asked the probation department to prepare a supplemental report on the Washington incident, which she will review.
Brown was ordered to appear at a hearing in Los Angeles on Dec. 16. The R&B artist is currently serving probation stemming from his 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
