Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility, according to a representative for the pop star.

The representative did not provide any other details about the decision, including where and why Spears plans to seek treatment.

TMZ first reported that she checked into a rehab facility in the U.S. for substance abuse, citing sources with direct knowledge.

Spears, 44, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in March in Ventura County, California.

Following the arrest, a representative for Spears said that the incident was "completely inexcusable" and that "hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life."

There has been public concern for Spears over her frequent social media posts, many of which show her dancing alone in her California home, including one in which she was dancing with knives that she later said were not real.

She last posted one of those dancing videos Saturday.

In another post, on Friday, she shared a photo of herself. "When peeps try to make you larger than life ... tell them to BOW," the caption said. "If i ever showed them the fragility of my real heart."

Spears skyrocketed to fame in the late '90s and was widely considered the "Princess of Pop." But her career has been marred by high-profile incidents — including being photographed in 2007 with a freshly shaven head hitting a car with an umbrella.

In 2021, she was freed from her 13-year conservatorship, which had prevented her from making her own personal and financial decisions.

She shares two adult sons with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
