Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, wants to change her name.

According to two sources familiar with the matter, the estranged couple’s daughter filed legal paperwork on her 18th birthday earlier this week to drop “Pitt” from her last name.

The sources say she now wants to go by Shiloh Jolie. NBC News has not reviewed the petition.

A source close to the matter said she hired and paid for her own lawyer.

Representatives for Pitt and Jolie did not respond to requests for comment.

This is not the first of the couple’s children to drop the Pitt surname. Zahara Marley Jolie did so, at least publicly, in 2022.

This news comes amid the famous couple’s ongoing divorce battle. The couple, who share six children together, split in 2016 after Jolie accused Pitt of choking one of their children during a volatile trans-Atlantic flight in 2016. Jolie filed for divorce following the alleged incident. NBC News obtained the FBI report of the incident in 2022, following a Freedom of Information/Privacy Act lawsuit brought by “Jane Doe.”

Following the alleged incident, Pitt was investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services. NBC News has previously reported that Pitt was cleared of any wrongdoing and criminal charges were never brought against the actor.

Since 2016, the exes have been in a legal battle over their winery, Château Miraval, located in the south of France. Pitt sued Jolie, accusing her of having improperly sold her half of the winery to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. Miraval was the site of their wedding in 2014.

Although the couple’s divorce is still ongoing, in 2019 they were granted a “bifurcated judgment,” meaning they are legally single.
