LONDON - The writer behind sado-masochism novels including "Fifty Shades of Grey" endured some pain of her own Monday when Twitter users took advantage of an online Q&A to make fun of her erotic fiction.

EL James visited the U.K. offices of Twitter to answer questions from fans about her steamy series.

However, the hashtag #AskELJames was seized upon by critics who accused the author of misogyny and of glorifying emotional abuse.

The online interaction began innocently enough with questions about the main characters such as “Have you ever wanted to change anything in Ana and Christian's story?”

It is unlikely the British author was too bothered by the Twitter zingers. She has reportedly earned more than $100 million from her erotic creation, according to Forbes.

“Thanks so much for an interesting hour... :D,” she wrote at the end of the session.
