Colleen Hoover, the famed romance and thriller author who penned "It Ends With Us," revealed in an Instagram story Monday that she is receiving cancer treatment.
"Second to last day of radiation!" Hoover wrote in the post, which included a photo of her wearing black sweats under a teal hospital gown.
"I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology but they've been great," Hoover added. "Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them."
It was not immediately clear what kind of cancer Hoover is being treated for or how long she has undergone treatment. NBC News has reached out to Hoover for further comment.
Hoover gave some insight into her cancer journey Friday on Facebook, saying results from genetic testing told her that the cancer did not "come from family genes" and that it "also didn't come from the two main causes of the cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones."
"This means it was more than likely environmental/lifestyle, which is lack of exercise, poor diet and stress," she wrote. "I'm happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating."
She said: "If you see me at the gym, don't even tell me good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I’m probably real mad about it."
Hoover's newest novel, "Woman Down," was released Tuesday. According to TODAY.com, which exclusively spoke to Hoover about the new release, the thriller "follows a frustrated author who goes to a secluded lakeside cabin for inspiration, and when a detective shows up with disturbing news, her creativity comes back."
"But when the investigator starts taking his role in her life too seriously, the author must confront her past and reclaim her own reputation," the outlet's description of the book continued.
Hoover has written more than 20 books, many of which fall into the romance or thriller categories and span young adult to mature ratings. Some of her biggest hits include "Verity," "Regretting You," and "It Ends With Us."
The latter was made into a feature film starring Blake Lively and hit theaters in 2024.
The making of the movie has devolved into a legal battle between Lively and her co-star Justin Baldoni, with Lively alleging sexual harassment on set by Baldoni, who countersued for defamation. A judge closed Baldoni's countersuit in November, and Lively's original suit against Baldoni is scheduled for trial this year.
"Regretting You" was also made into a film and was released last year.
"Reminders of Him," another of Hoover's novels, is also getting the movie treatment and will reach theaters in March. The movie version of "Verity," Hoover's most popular thriller, will be released this fall.
