The White House on Monday called on Congress to take action after the Supreme Court’s ruling that some employers do not need to provide contraception coverage, saying the decision “jeopardizes the health of women.”
"We will work with Congress to make sure that any women affected by this decision will still have the same coverage of vital health services as everyone else," White House spokesman Josh Ernst told reporters Monday.
Ernst said the president may also take executive actions, though the White House is still reviewing the available options.
“Today’s decision jeopardizes the health of women employed by these companies,” he added.
The Court ruled Monday that some corporations can opt out of the new health care law’s requirement that they provide health insurance coverage for contraceptives over religious objections.
