President Barack Obama landed in Tokyo this morning – and he’s already hit up one of the most famous sushi restaurants on the planet.
Shortly after Obama’s arrival in the country (about 7pm local time), Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe invited Obama to dine at Sukiyabashi Jiro, the renowned Tokyo sushi counter featured in a critically acclaimed documentary and called “one of the hardest reservations to get in the world.”
According to White House pool reports, Obama was joined by Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and National Security Adviser Susan Rice at the meal. The restaurant’s 89 year-old owner Jiro Ono was featured in the 2011 film “Jiro Dreams of Sushi.”
A New Yorker review in 2012 pegged the cost of a meal at the three-Michelin-star restaurant at about $370.
It sounded tasty, based on the president’s review upon exiting the legendary venue.
“That's some good sushi right there,” he told reporters.
