Corey Lewandowski, a special government employee who served as a top adviser to former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, has departed from his post at the Department of Homeland Security, a spokesperson confirmed to NBC News.
“Mr. Lewandowski no longer has a role at DHS,” a department spokesperson said Saturday amid questions about whether Lewandowski would be leaving the agency, where he was serving as a special government employee.
Politico was the first to report the news of Lewandowski’s departure.
President Donald Trump fired Noem earlier this month after she’d served for a year in the agency’s top role.
Former Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., was sworn in as her replacement earlier this week.
Noem’s firing came amid mounting scrutiny of Noem on several fronts, including over her relationship with Lewandowski and his role overseeing contracts at DHS.
Last week, Democratic lawmakers launched an inquiry into Lewandowski and whether he sought personal payments from contractors while working at DHS.
The inquiry came after NBC News reported that Lewandowski asked some DHS contractors to be paid in exchange for protecting and growing their contracts with the department.
A representative for Lewandowski told NBC News earlier this month, “This is absolutely false and did not happen — Mr. Lewandowski never demanded any payment or compensation” from the contractor who alleged that he did.
Democratic senators have also opened a separate inquiry into whether Noem or Lewandowski personally profited from a $220 million ad contract that featured Noem in 2025.
At the time senators launched the inquiry earlier this month, representatives for DHS did not respond to questions about whether Lewandowski or other DHS employees benefited from the ad contract.
After Noem’s ouster from DHS, multiple sources familiar with the matter told NBC News that Trump had begun asking those around him what Lewandowski’s role was in assigning contracts at DHS, including whether he had personally profited.
Noem and Lewandowski have also repeatedly faced allegations of an extramarital affair, which they have denied.
