Just in case you were wondering… The White House on Monday dismissed former NBC player Dennis Rodman's visit to North Korea as a "celebrity sporting event" for an oppressive regime.
Asked to comment on the former basketball player’s kind words for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, White House spokesman Jay Carney said that North Korean leaders should pay less attention to the former Chicago Bull and Detroit Pistons player and concentrate on the needs of its own people.
"Instead of spending money on celebrity sporting events to entertain the elites of that country, the North Korean regime should focus on the well-being of its own people who have been starved, imprisoned and denied their human rights," he said.
Carney added that the White House already has its own direct channels of communication with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Rodman, who visited the secretive nation with nuclear aspirations last week for a basketball exhibition, has advised that President Barack Obama should call Mr. Kim, whom Rodman said does not “want to do war.”
