A West Virginia high school senior a week shy of graduation has big plans for summer vacation: Campaigning for a seat in the state legislature.
Saira Blair, 17, knocked off the incumbent in the Republican primary this week, setting up a run for the West Virginia House in November.
The Martinsburg teen unseated Larry Kump in the District 59 race, 872-728, to earn a shot in the general election.
Blair, who turns 18 in July, will face Democratic lawyer Layne Diehl. She would be the youngest state lawmaker in West Virginia history.
Blair told The Associated Press she plans to attend West Virginia University but would skip spring classes if she is elected. The Legislature meets January to March.
Blair is a churchgoer who told the AP she is pro-life, pro-gun rights and pro-business.
