The chief technology officer for Jeb Bush’s “Right to Rise PAC” resigned on Tuesday after apologizing for “regrettable and insensitive comments,” the group said.
The remarks by Ethan Czahor weren’t made public. But the PAC said in a statement that while Czahor has apologized for the comments, “they do not reflect the views of Governor Bush or his organization and it is appropriate for him to step aside. We wish him the best.”
Czahor tweeted late Tuesday: “i only hope that my recent news won't dissuade future techies from entering politics, regardless of political affiliations/backgrounds ... and i've resigned my role at right to rise. best of luck to everyone there, and i apologize in advance to whoever fills my position.”
He didn’t reference his remarks, but the day before had tweeted: “i deleted some old jokes i made years ago that i no longer find funny or appropriate. #learning #maturing.” But several of the offensive tweets were captured by media outlets, like BuzzFeed.
The derogatory remarks unearthed by critics about women and African-Americans posed a particular problem for Bush as he explores a 2016 presidential bid. The former Florida governor has developed a reputation as an earnest, open-minded politician looking to move past the harsh tones of some prominent Republicans in Congress and elsewhere.
