The debate about her use of personal emails is still largely consuming the political world, but Hillary Clinton took to Twitter Wednesday to slam potential Republican 2016 candidates for signing a letter to Iranian officials warning against a nuclear deal.
She tweeted:
The letter was signed by likely GOP candidates Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Rand Paul.
The leader of the GOP effort, freshman Sen. Tom Cotton, fired back:
The open letter, which 47 Republican senators penned earlier this week, prompted outrage from Democrats and the White House, who called it a brazen and unprecedented effort to undermine the administration's ongoing diplomatic strategy.
On Tuesday, at the press conference where she addressed the email controversy, Clinton called the letter "out of step with the best traditions of American leadership."
"And one has to ask, what was the purpose of this letter?" she added. "There appear to be two logical answers. Either these senators were trying to be helpful to the Iranians or harmful to the commander- in-chief in the midst of high-stakes international diplomacy. Either answer does discredit to the letters' signatories."
