A whopping 89 percent of Americans — including almost identical numbers of Democrats, Republicans and independents — believe that President Obama and Congress are sticking to their partisan positions and aren’t compromising on major issues, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
By contrast, just 8 percent think they are trying to find consensus and work together.
Among the nearly nine-in-10 respondents who believe that Washington is acting in a partisan manner, 26 percent say the Republican-led Congress is more responsible, 15 percent blame President Obama and the Democrats more, and 47 percent point the finger at both sides.
The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted March 1-5 of 1,000 adults (including 350 cell phone-only respondents and another 36 reached by cell but who also have a landline), and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.
