OFF TO THE RACES: Monday's big clash

NBCNews: “Clinton Studies Up for Debate — And It Pays Off”

The New York Times: "In a relentlessly antagonistic debate, Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton clashed over trade, the Iraq war, his refusal to release his tax returns and her use of a private email server, with Mr. Trump frequently showing impatience and political inexperience as Mrs. Clinton pushed him to defend his past denigration of women and President Obama.”

The Washington Post: "Donald Trump unrelentingly blamed the nation’s chronic problems on “typical politician” Hillary Clinton, yet he found himself mostly on the defensive in their first debate here Monday night as she denounced him for racial insensitivity, hiding potential conflicts of interest and “stiffing” those who helped build his business empire.”

The Wall Street Journal: "Mrs. Clinton, who had prepared methodically for the showdown, managed to put Mr. Trump on the defensive for most of the night and avoided being knocked off her own message as was the fate for many of his opponents at Republican primary debates."

From the AP: "Donald Trump aggressively tried to pin the nation's economic and national security problems on Hillary Clinton in the first presidential debate, belittling the former senator and secretary of state as a "typical politician" incapable of delivering the change many Americans crave. But Trump found himself on the defensive for much of the 90-minute showdown Monday night.”

And here are some of the top moments from last night’s clash.

Rudy Giuliani floatedthe idea of Trump skipping out on future debates.

Trump claimed his mic was “defective” after being mocked for sniffling during the debate.

On FOX this morning, Trump doubled down on his criticism of former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, "She was the winner, and she gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem. We had to - we had a real problem, not only that, her attitude, and we had a real problem with her, so Hillary went back into the years and she found this - this was many years ago, and found the girl and talked about her like she was Mother Theresa, and it wasn't quite that way.”
