Hillary Clinton on Tuesday said she is considering a presidential run in 2016, but her time watching Washington gridlock from afar as secretary of state has soured her to the political process.
“I am obviously flattered and deeply honored to have people ask me and people encourage me. And I am thinking about it,” Clinton said in response to a question about a future presidential run.
“But I'm going to continue to think about it for a while,” she told the audience at a marketing conference in California.
Clinton said the political pettiness she observed back at home while traveling abroad as President Obama’s top diplomat made her question why she would want to wage another presidential campaign.
"I would be the first to say we're having a political period of, frankly, dysfunction,” she said. “I saw it from afar as secretary and it was disheartening and even embarrassing to see people arguing about letting us default on our debt.”
Her comments came during a question and answer session at a marketing summit in San Francisco, Calif. It was the first stop in a West Coast speaking tour this week that includes stops in Portland, Ore., Las Vegas and San Jose.
