The political organizations led by billionaire conservative activists Charles and David Koch plan to spend nearly $900 million during the 2016 campaign, an eye-popping sum that rivals past spending by political parties.
The budget, released to donors Monday at a Koch-sponsored summit and first reported on by the Washington Post, outlines a plan to spend $889 million on presidential and congressional races.
In 2012, the Democratic Party spent $1.07 billion throughout the election cycle, while the GOP spent $1.00 billion, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The Republican and Democratic National Committees combined spent just over $720 million.
The Koch network raised at least $407 million during the 2012 elections.
