First Lady Michelle Obama’s message to Wisconsin Democrats on Monday was simple: show up.
“We need to be just as passionate and as hungry as we were back in 2008 and 2012,” the first lady said at a rally for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke.
Democrats view the hotly contested race as a chance to knock off high-profile Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Outside groups on both sides have poured money and resources into the state ahead of November.
Just hours before Obama took the stage, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie swung through to campaign for Walker. Not only is Walker’s job on the line, but also his prospects for a possible 2016 presidential run.
“The future of Wisconsin is at stake and the eyes of the country are upon us,” Burke said.
“This is going to be a tight race and every single vote is going to matter,” she added.
