It has been readily apparent that Capitol Hill has been a contentious place in recent years, and two of the most senior members of the Senate on Tuesday revealed just how heated things can get.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. John McCain have had a tumultuous relationship over the years, but have surprised some political watchers by forging a good working relationship and even friendship in recent months. On Tuesday, the two former boxers held a joint news conference to cast a spotlight on brain injuries in boxing.
During the event, Reid alluded to the pairs much improved relationship, but said there are still some rocky moments that inevitably arise between senators from opposite sides of the aisle.
"We are friends. We have so much respect for each other," Reid said. "It was just a month or two ago, we ran into each other by the elevators, he said, 'I'm going to go to the floor and kick the [expletive] out of you.' And I said, 'I wouldn't expect less.' And he did."
