Parts of the Capitol building remained closed to the public Thursday morning after a "potential release" during ongoing asbestos removal.
The House side of the building reopened for members and staff shortly after 9 a.m. ET. But the "industrial accident" delayed action on the House floor, per a note from House Speaker John Boehner to members of Congress.
"During ongoing asbestos abatement work there was a potential release affecting the House side of the Capitol," the Architect of the Capitol sad in a statement. "Samples have been collected to determine whether there was potential exposure."
The incident began at around 2:30 a.m. ET. The issue is being investigated by the Architect of the Capitol and the U.S. Capitol Police.
