Sen. JD Vance on Thursday said he has accepted an invitation from CBS News for a vice presidential debate against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, on Oct. 1.

“The American people deserve as many debates as possible,” Vance wrote on X, adding that he had also accepted a CNN debate against Walz on Sept. 18. “I look forward to seeing you at both!”

Walz on Wednesday accepted CBS News’ invitation to debate Vance on Oct. 1. CBS had proposed four dates for the vice presidential date: Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.

Walz has not commented on whether he would agree to the proposed Sept. 18 debate on CNN. The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding Walz’s potential participation in the Sept. 18 debate.

Reached for comment, a CNN spokesperson said the network extended invitations to both vice presidential nominees for a debate in the fall and acknowledged that Vance has accepted CNN’s invitation.

“We are always in communication with the campaigns around opportunities for the American public to hear from leading candidates for President and Vice President of the United States, and we look forward to this programming in the fall,” a CNN spokesperson said in a statement.

Trump last week said the campaign has accepted CBS News’ invitation to a vice presidential debate and that his running mate Vance “has really stepped up. He’s doing a fantastic job.” He did not specify a debate date at the time.

In his first rally as Harris’ running mate last week, Walz said of Vance, “I can’t wait to debate the guy.”

Trump and Harris are set to participate in a Sept. 10 debate hosted by ABC News.
