The phrase “drip, drip, drip” may be one of the most overused of this election cycle, but that’s exactly what the last few days of headlines for Hillary Clinton felt like, once again. Critics of the Clinton Foundation got more fuel for the fire today when a handful of newly released emails showed that top donors to the organization appeared to get expedited access to Clinton through top aide Huma Abedin. And we know that even more previously undisclosed emails are being reviewed by the State Department for potential release in October. Stories about the Foundation have prompted Donald Trump to call for the whole operation to be shut down -- with even some Democratic commentators agreeing. For his part, Bill Clinton says that he’ll step down from the Foundation’s board and stop raising money for it if his wife is elected, a significant concession but one that may not go far enough for Clinton skeptics. Keep in mind, by the way, that Clinton’s email issues are still bugging a lot of general election voters, even if core Democrats are rallying around their nominee. Our August poll showed that about half of voters said that her use of a private email server and her big payouts for private speeches raise “major concerns” about her candidacy.
