Summer is here, and many Americans are planning to take a vacation. But before you swap your loafers for flip flops, ask yourself: are you really unplugging from work?
According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, 44 percent of working adults said they check work email daily while on vacation, and about 1 in 10 admitted to checking it hourly.
Professionals with smartphones stay in touch with work for at least 13.5 hours a day, and then spend another five hours scrolling through email each weekend, according to the Center for Creative Leadership.
Another report by mobile software firm Good Technology found that the average American puts in more than a month and a half of overtime a year – just by answering calls and emails outside the office.
