LONDON - A 25-year-old suspect was arrested after a woman was found beheaded in a domestic garden in a suburb of north London, police said Thursday. Armed police were called to the scene just after 1 p.m. local time (8 a.m. ET) and found the victim's body lying in a garden, a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police said. A police source told NBC News the woman had been beheaded.
One man was arrested on suspicion of murder. In a statement, police said a Taser was used to subdue the suspect, and an officer suffered a broken wrist during the arrest.
For Londoners, news of the crime carried echoes of the murder of soldier Lee Rigby who was hacked to death in a street in broad daylight by two men who said they were acting in the name of Islam. Detective Chief Inspector John Sandlin said he was "confident, based on the information currently available," that Thursday's killing was "not terrorist related." Nobody else was being sought over the killing.
