Though Democrats were unsuccessful in their attempt to recall Governor Scott Walker, not all news out of Wisconsin on Tuesday night was bad for the party. Exit polls showed that voters in the state would vote for President Obama by a margin of 9% presidential election. Recall voters said they would pick Obama over Republican Mitt Romney by a 52-43 percent margin in Wisconsin.
In 2008, Obama took the state by a 13.9% margin over Republican nominee John McCain. Obama carried Wisconsin with over 56% of the vote, significantly improving upon John Kerry's margin of victory in 2004. One caveat, however: 10 to 12 percent of the electorate voted absentee, and absentees are not included in the exit poll.
