If seeing how many likes are on a Facebook post or knowing how many Facebook friends someone has causes you anxiety, then it might be time for therapy — and for a new browser extension.

Facebook Demetricator is a browser extension — compatible with Chrome, Safari, and Firefox — which strips Facebook of all "social metrics." This means that you won't see the number of likes or shares on posts, the exact time when something was posted, or the number of friends someone has.

The Facebook Demetricator browser extension strips the social network of most metrics. At the top, you see the information a Facebook post normally offers, at the bottom, you see that same post with the Facebook Demetricator extension running.

Instead of seeing that only three people like the photo you posted of your cat in a Halloween costume, you'll simply see "people like this." Instead of seeing that a photo of a party to which you weren't invited was posted at 3 a.m., you'll simply see that it was posted "recently." Get the idea? All the specifics over which people occasionally obsess are gone with the Facebook Demetricator extension. You wind up with … just posts.

It's worth noting that the browser extension won't modify profile elements, meaning that things like birthdays or anniversary dates will still appear even when timestamps are missing in action.

Will Facebook Demetricator suck the fun out of Facebook? Will you even want to use the social network if you can't compare how popular your posts are in comparison to your friends'? Tell us in the poll or comment section below.
