Today's edition of quick hits:
* President Obama covered quite a bit of ground in his speech to the United Nations today, including making the case that the United States will "do what we must" to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons.
* Economy: "U.S. home prices rose for a sixth straight month in July in the latest sign of a sustainable housing market recovery, while a jump in consumer confidence this month offered a harbinger that Americans are ready to loosen their spending."
* Spain: "The pressures facing the government of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy mounted on several fronts on Tuesday, as thousands of demonstrators besieged Parliament and Spain's two largest regions took steps that underscored their deepening economic troubles and displeasure with his austerity plans."
* Did Mitt Romney admit today that Obama did not raise taxes in his first term? Actually, yes, that's exactly what Romney admitted today.
* On a related note, Romney apparently didn't like it when his Ohio audience chanted Paul Ryan's name, so he tried to lead them in a "Romney-Ryan" chant. It didn't go well.
* To characterize Paul Ryan as a "wonk" is to set the standards for wonkdom far too low.
* When the Wall Street Journal runs political columns from Romney campaign advisers, shouldn't it disclose that detail to its readers?
* And Fox's Brian Kilmeade suspects it's the rich, and not the middle class, who'll help grow the economy. I'm always a little surprised to see conservatives say this out loud in a country where so many people consider themselves middle class.
