A tropical storm has formed off Mexico’s Gulf coast and is expected to make landfall Monday.
Tropical Storm Fernand, initially designated Tropical Depression Six, was churning winds of at least 45 mph, according to a bulletin from the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. It was roughly 25 miles east of the Mexican state of Veracruz on Sunday evening.
Fernand is projected to drop 4 to 8 inches of rain over swaths of several states, according to The Associated Press.
The government of Mexico has issued warning for Mexico’s gulf coast, stretching from Veracruz to Tampico, where the storm is expected to make landfall.
Meanwhile, in the eastern Pacific, former Tropical Storm Ivo waned further from a tropical depression into a remnant low, according to the AP.
