Puerto Deseado, a town and fishing port in southern Argentina, offers a jumping off point to Penguin Island, where visitors can get close and personal with the island's shorter residents, including rockhopper and magellanic penguins.
Last month, Joel Jacobson took an hour-and-a-half boat trip to the island, where he and other visitors spent four hours wandering and snapping photos of the penguins during a bright, clear afternoon.
Rockhoppers are one of the smallest species of penguins, growing to about 20 inches and weighing about 7 pounds.
