Apparently, there's room at Target's table for Apple, but none for Amazon.
Target (TGT), the third largest retailer in the U.S. by sales, said Wednesday that it will no longer be selling Amazon.com's (AMZN) Kindle e-reader beginning this spring.
"Target is phasing out Amazon- and Kindle-branded products in the spring of 2012. We will continue to offer our guests a full assortment of e-readers and supporting accessories," Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder told msnbc.com in an email.
Snyder declined to elaborate on why Target made the decision, which comes not long after the retailer announced it would be setting up Apple iPhone and iPad displays in 25 of its stores. The move is part of the "Shops at Target" strategy it announced in January that will include kiosks within its discount stores selling everything from dog treats to high-end home accessories.
"Target continually evaluates its product assortment to deliver the best quality and prices for our guests," Snyder said.
