Charlotte, N.C.— Mark Warner represents Virginia—North Carolina's northern neighbor and a demographically similar fellow crucial swing state—in the U.S. Senate. The messaging at the Democratic National Convention, particularly Wednesday night with its economic themes, is aimed squarely at Warner's constituents.

Warner told Lean Forward that Clinton's speech "blew me away," as he was leaving the arena after former President Bill Clinton spoke on Wednesday.

"[Clinton] hasn't lost a step," Warner added. "He was able to explain in clear, more human terms the choice the American people face."

Warner professes confidence that Obama will carry his home state this November. "We went into this week in good shape and it's getting better every day," he said.

Polling shows Obama and Mitt Romney locked in a tight race in Virginia.

Asked if he was going to any parties that night, Warner said, "I may hit a few," but he was mum on which ones.
