In a Last Word web-exclusive, Newsweek's Michelle Goldberg explained "one of the most breathtakingly cynical things" about presidential candidate Mitt Romney. To Goldberg, it's not just that he used to be pro-choice, then changed his viewpoint. It's that he used to "quite movingly" invoke the name of relative who died of a botched abortion, then seemed to toss her aside "when it was no longer politically convenient."
She told The Last Word "it's not enough that he kind of used her death for political expediency, but then he suddenly decided that her death actually meant nothing at all." She questioned how this "searing" personal experience somehow got overridden by "an abstract conversation" with a scientist over stem cell research, who reportedly helped changed his mind.
