There's a lot of talk about returning ideas to the founding fathers these days. One Republican really likes an idea used by Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr: a gun duel.
At a town hall event in Oklahoma, Rep. John Sullivan (R) was expressing his frustration with the Senate voting down Paul Ryan’s budget plan. He had some colorful ideas to get the bill through the upper chamber of Congress:
"I supported the Paul Ryan budget and sent it over to the Senate. Now I live with some senators, I yell at them all the time, I grabbed one of them the other day and shook him and I'd love to get them to vote for it — boy I'd love that. You know but other than me going over there with a gun and holding it to their head and maybe killing a couple of them, I don't think they're going to listen unless they get beat."
There you have it, Second Amendment remedies for those from whom you disagree.
Sullivan has since walked back the statement, his office offering "sincere apologies to anyone he offended."
On the count of three can we all agree to tone down the gun rhetoric in our political dialogue?
