Barnes & Noble

As expected, Barnes & Noble revealed the details of its latest offering — a cheaper, smaller Nook — today.

The new Nook — described as a "Simple Touch Reader" — has a 6-inch touchscreen and weighs in at 7.48 ounces. This means that it's about 35 percent lighter and 15 percent thinner than its big brother, the Nook Wi-Fi 1st Edition.

Despite the petite body, the device is packed with just about all the features you'd need. It has a paper-like e-ink display, 2GB internal memory, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi capability, and an operating system built on top of Android 2.1.

Barnes & Noble claims that the new Nook also has an insanely long battery life and that it will run for up to two months on a single charge — assuming that you've got the Wi-Fi toggled off.

The new Nook is available for pre-order right now, but it won't ship until June 10. It will set you back $139 — the same as Amazon's Wi-Fi-only Kindle.
