Today's edition of quick hits:
* An American soldier opened fire on Afghan civilians in Kandahar over the weekend, killing at least 16 people, including nine children. The slayings have seriously undermined hopes of diplomatic progress, and the Taliban has vowed revenge for the attack.
* The accused Army staff sergeant, who is in custody, has reportedly suffered from traumatic brain injury, and experienced recent family problems.
* The Justice Department is blocking Texas' new voter-ID law, while in Wisconsin, a state judge has ruled that a recently-created voter-ID law is unconstitutional.
* An Oregon man, Christopher Lee Colson, has been arrested and charged "in connection with mailing more than 100 letters containing white powder to members of Congress and news organizations in recent weeks."
* Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) continues to try to address the vacancy crisis on the federal bench.
* A new internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks confirms that 141 sponsors have pulled their ads from Rush Limbaugh's show. That's a lot more than previously thought.
* As a "Parks and Recreation" fan, I think it's pretty great that AFSCME endorsed Leslie Knope.
* It's disconcerting that Justice Scalia doesn't remember Bush v. Gore as well as the rest of us do.
* And how far is Mitt Romney willing to go in Alabama? He's apparently willing to slip a little fake drawl into his public remarks.
