A journalist who survived an attack by an Afghan police officer that killed her co-worker has been moved to Germany for treatment, an Associated Press spokesman said Tuesday.
Kathy Gannon’s condition remains stable although she is “undergoing treatment and evaluation in Germany,” said Paul Colford the director of media relations for The Associated Press.
She was hit twice in the arm and was being operated on, a family member said shortly after the Friday shooting.
A funeral service for her co-worker photographer colleague Anja Niedringhaus will be held at Corvey Abbey, a Benedictine monastery near her birthplace in Hoxter, Germany on Saturday, Colford added.
Award-winning Niedringhaus, 48, was fatally shot in the head while getting into a vehicle with Gannon at a district government compound in the remote Khost province.
The journalists were travelling with a convoy carrying election materials to the district that borders Pakistan ahead of Saturday’s presidential poll.
