French prosecutors said Friday that they would file eight terrorism charges, including murder, against a man who was implicated in the shooting death of a woman and a thwarted attack on a church.
The charges against the man, Sid Ahmed Ghlam, a 24-year-old student, also include terror conspiracy, theft and weapons charges. Prosecutors also said they had released a 25-year-old woman detained and questioned in connection with the alleged plot.
Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Thursday that the planned attack on the church was one of five thwarted by French authorities since the massacre at Charlie Hebdo newspaper in January. “Never has the threat been so high,” he said.
Ghlam was to appear before a judge later Friday.
The woman who was shot to death, Aurelie Chatelain, was found in the Paris suburb of Villejuif.
