There's already a healthy dose of incredulity regarding the Golden Globe nominations for "The Tourist," and now, it appears the film has company on the television side of nominees -- and this one might come as more of a surprise.
There's increasing buzz among some nominees that "Boardwalk Empire," the much-praised HBO series, maybe should be nominated (it's nominated for best drama, and Steve Buscemi for best actor, drama), but it definitely should not take home any statues. "It's a tough category, and the other shows that are nominated ("Dexter," "The Good Wife," "Mad Men," "The Walking Dead,") are just much more consistent," said actor who is part of a show that's nominated in the same category. "There was a ton of hype about 'Boardwalk,' but it shouldn't be winning anything, that's for sure."
There's also criticism over Buscemi's role. "He is a great, great, actor," said another actor at the BAFTA Tea in Beverly Hills on Sunday. "But this isn't his role. I don't buy him in it."
Like many ongoing conversations at the Globes, this extended one turned to the wacky thinking of the Hollywood Foreign Press. "The Hollywood Foreign Press likes new. This is new and it's really big and flashy. They don't always look for things that the industry thinks it should look for when the voting takes place. Things like being really consistent and solid, not just what's flashy and new."
