RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Two U.S. nationals came under gunfire Friday while traveling in a car in an eastern region of the kingdom, leaving one of the victims wounded, local police told NBC News. The incident happened at 2 p.m. (6 a.m. ET) in the city of Al-Mubarraz, which is located in the Shiite-majority district of al-Ahsa, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The person who was shot was transferred to a hospital in stable condition, police said. Officials were investigating the incident but provided no further details about the victims or possible suspects. The SPA said the gunfire came from an "unknown source."
