A supermarket in San Jose del Cabo was ransacked on Monday as Tropical Storm Odile ground its way up Mexico's Baja California peninsula, gradually losing strength after forcing the evacuation of thousands and smashing shops open to looters in the popular tourist area.

Pharmacies, electronics shops and convenience stores were among businesses hit by looters before police restored order on streets strewn with shattered glass from broken windows, said local shop worker Cristina Osuna, 31.
