A woman was killed and her baby badly injured after plunging from the window of a Manhattan apartment building Wednesday, according to the New York City Fire Department.
Authorities were not sure of the cause of the fall, but NBCNewYork.com reports that police are investigating the incident as a possible suicide attempt by the mother, who may have leaped from the 8th-floor apartment.
The child was transported to Harlem Hospital where he is in stable condition. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
The apartment window was open, and there were no signs of struggle inside, according to NBC New York. There were no safety bars on the windows of the apartment
