A 76-year-old Wisconsin man on Monday pleaded not guilty to shooting his blind wife of 56 years, who he told investigators had been nagging him.
Jack Lang, of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, entered a plea of not guilty to first-degree murder charges in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Monday, online court records show.
Prosecutors say Lang killed his wife June, then tried to kill himself, firing three shots but only grazing his head.
Lang told investigators the couple was on their way to have lunch at a bingo casino when his wife started calling him names such as “baby” and “giving him hell” for saying he wasn't feeling well and wanting to go home, according the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which cited a criminal complaint.
She continued to criticize him because “he could not give her a good time anymore” and that in order to get work done around the house he needed help, the complaint said.
When they returned home and June allegedly continued to harangue Jack, he “just lost it,” the complaint said.
He retrieved a .22 caliber handgun from a closet and fatally shot her in the head, investigators allege in the complaint.
After shooting his wife, Jack allegedly tried to kill himself but only grazed his head and then called 911, according to the Sentinel.
A scheduling conference in the case is set for May 8.
